"At Christmas 1925 Milne was asked to write a story for the London Evening News. He decided to write down a bedtime story he had told his son about his bear, which had now acquired the name Winnie-the-Pooh, Winnie after a black Canadian bear in the zoo and Pooh for more mysterious reasons. The story became the first chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh" (ODNB). Octavo. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in dark green morocco, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, compartments and front cover stamped with gilt blocks of the characters, board edges and turn-ins ruled in gilt, floral endpapers, original map endpapers bound in at front, edges gilt.
