Each volume with 14 vignettes, of which 13 are colored in volume I and 10 are colored in volume II. Early, though likely not contemporary, polished leather with raised spine bands and gilt stamped lettering. Marbled end leaves. Covers show scattered rubbing and light wear at spine ends. Joints of boards at spine are tender, though still hold. Contents show scattered light offsetting, a little foxing, and occasional smudges, but overall are fairly clean and intact.

An engaging description of life in changing Russia during the years before and during the fall of the Russian empire. Original blue boards with gilt titles and decorations on front cover and spine. Cover scrubbed and stained, gilt on front bright but fading on spine, light edge wear, a little bumping of corners and spine ends, end papers tanned with a little staining, interior pages bright and clean, binding tight.

Three volumes in modern half polished calf over buckram boards, the backs with two black morocco labels and intricate gilt decorations, tops gilt, marbled end papers, Near Fine, the lightest of edge wear. iv, 360, 360, 312 pp. Half-titles in Vols. II and III. Each volume with a frontis illustration, Fine in all volumes. An uncommon history in lovely binding with exceptional plates. . First Edition. Half Polished Calf. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

This is a small book of poetry by Madame de Basily in English. Her story can be read on the Hoover Institution website. She is American born and the donor of the items in the Nicolas de Basily room. This book was published in Paris the year after her marriage in November, 1919. Her husband was the Diplomat of Imperial Russia 1903 - 1917. The poetry in this 31 page book is dated 1915 - 1917. It appears to be one of a kind. There are marbled end papers plus three from, front and back. The cover has wear as shown. There is foxing from page 21 onward. The poems are titled: In Tifles, The Cry of Holy Russia, Anarchist Lullaby, Human Wreckage, Afternoon Service in the Alexander Newsky Monastery, The Kremlin, White Night on the Gulf of Finland,Republic of Cronstadt, ProphesyTo Life. There is also a dedication to her mother. Mr. and Mrs. de Basily are buried in Baltimore. Land, Estates, and Wealth were never recovered in Russia.

In 1957, the group of Chris Marker, Armand Gatti, André Pierrard and Sacha Vierny was one of the first to travel and work in Siberia during the Cold War. Two independent works emerged from this trip – Chris Marker's Letter from Siberia (1957) and Armand Gatti's Sibérie – zero + l'infini (1958), which was one of the first Western reports on Siberia since 1917.
Armand Gatti, one of the most acclaimed theater playwrights of the 20th century, had already written eight plays and had received the Albert Londres Prize for his earlier work before pursuing a career as a journalist. Gatti came back from Siberia with eleven articles about the region, which were published in Libération, the underground newspaper of the Résistance movement.
