Description:
1696 Hebrew Republic Judaism Judaica Republican Semitism Cunaeus + Angels Occult

Petrus Cunaeus was an early 17th-century Dutch scholar whose 'Hebrew Republic' is considered, according to Tuck, "the most powerful statement of republican theory in the early years of the Dutch Republic."(Tuck, 169)
"De Republica Hebraeorum" describes ancient Hebrew kingdoms and portrays it as the model of republican governments. This book was highly influential on the formation of the Dutch Republic, even though Cunaeus foresaw the Dutch government falling just as Rome did. Ultimately, Cunaeus sought for the book to instill tolerance toward 17th-century Jews through the publication of 'Republica.'
This book is curiously bound with Sebastian Schmidt's 'Succinctae & Solidae' – an extremely rare occult work and commentary on angels from the Bible.

Description:
1854 1ed Spirit Manifestations Occult Psychology Mesmerism Druids Mediums Dods
John Bovee Dods was a 19th-century philosopher known for his studies and beliefs in spiritualism and mesmerism. One of his best works was 'Spirit Manifestations Examined and Explained' – a series of his lectures on his experiences in the supernatural and spiritual world. Dods claims that the phenomena of the spirit world, while genuine and real, is a result of 'electrical psychology' (a term related to animal magnetism coined by Dods himself).
More specifically in these lectures, Dods covers:
·
Involuntary movements and instincts in humans
·
Communications of mediums
·
Authenticity of the Bible, concerning spiritualism
·
Habits and pagan acts by ancient tribes – Druids, Romans, Greeks, etc.

Description:
A very nice first edition of Carrington's book, with DJ and rare thus. Hereward Carrington was one of the UK's most well known researchers into psychic and related phenomena. Here, he recounts some of his strangest experiences during his long career, and includes encounters with Aleister Crowley, among others. Book is VG+/VG. Pages are excellent: bright, crisp, clean with no apparent markings or inscriptions and no staining or creasing. Just a slight tanning on FEPs and age related dusting and slight spotting on top edges, but really lovely. Boards are clean and tight. There is a slight 'give' or 'lean' to the spine but not affecting the overall integrity of the book. DJ is unclipped and intact: a previous owner has covered it in a form plastic tape-wrapper. This is not a removable covering, however neither is it attached to the book, only to the wrapper itself for protection. And the DJ itself is clearly in a very good state: unclipped and with just some minor shelf wear and minimal impacts. Overall… Read More
