A rare, 19th-century traditional Hebrew text printing of the 'Chovot HaLevavot' or 'The Duties of the Heart'.

'Duties of the Heart' was written by 11th-century Rabbi Bahya ibn Paquada – a book which discusses unity with God, characteristics and attributes of God, Jewish worship practices, Jewish law, asceticism, and the immortality of the soul.
Hebrew texts from this era are considered quite rare, but this edition was published in Vilnius, Lithuania while it was under control of the Russian Empire. Nearly half of the population in Vilnius was Jewish in the second-half of the 19th-century so it is unsurprising to find Hebrew books printed in Vilnius.

The Shulchan Aruch, also known as the 'Code of Jewish Law', is an extensive collection of legal codes under Rabbinical Judaism. From its appearance in the mid-16th-century, this work is regularly paired with law commentaries, as is the case with this 1737 Wilhelmsdorf edition. The Yoreh De'ah is also found in this work, a section of the law covering lesser aspects of Jewish law such as honoring parents, circumcision, forbidden foods, and studying Torah scrolls.

A rare 18th-century Hebrew printing of the 'Sefer Ohel Mosheh' published in Zalkva, Ukraine. This exceedingly rare edition of Hebrew scripture text includes notes and commentary by Zalkva Rabbi Moshe Ben-Zvi Hirsh. More commonly known as Zhovkva today, Zalkva housed an important Jewish printing house from which this sefer was published.
This particular sefer discusses the use of Hebrew language and grammar in conjunction with scripture.
Worth noting, the town of Zalkva was under Nazi occupation during World War II, and nearly all of the 4500 Jewish residents were sentenced to extermination camps and the Jewish synagogue was destroyed.

The author, Arturo Schwarz, points out that both alchemy and Kabbalah are frequently distorted in popular as well as scholarly literature. She maintained her native Yiddish and has been a proponant of maintaining the tradition. She has received worldwide acclaim. There is very slight paper deterioration on the edge of the upper right corner, otherwise excellent and unread. Listed as near fine. There are 2 inscriptions on the front free end page, one by the author and one by Leon, who I think is her grandson. The book is inscribed to the late Frances Blatt, a friend and neighbor, who was violinist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. The author has dated, inscribed and signed on the front free end page. (I have 2 other books by Chaya Rochel Andres listed elsewhere in my online store.)

Woodrow Wilson had a successful career as a lawyer, real estate investor, and the Reform Jewish community leader in New York City.This work by Morgenthau is the definitive account of the Armenian Genocide during the last years of the Ottoman Empire, as well as his views on the creation of a Jewish State. His son, Henry Morgenthau Jr. served as the Secretary of the Treasury for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His grandson, Robert M. Morgenthau, would serve as the District Attorney for Manhattan for 35 years.

Eddy de Wind went first to the deportation-camp Westerbork in the Netherlands as a volunteer to help the (Jewish) people that were transported from here to the concentration-camps in the east.
