'The Badminton Library' was perhaps the most important 19th-century encyclopedia published with the intent of providing the English public with reading on sports and leisure, skill improvement, and general knowledge of their favorite pastimes.
This lot from the 'Badminton Library' contains three books on fishing and whaling. It features Henry Cholmondeley-Pennell's treatise on fishing salmon, trout, and pike. "Sea Fishing" includes numerous treatises including 'Whaling' by Gore-Booth, and 'Tarpon' by Harmsworth. Note the impressive illustrations throughout with views of fish, fishing spots, and fishing gear.

You get one vintage Fisherman's Luck by Lou J. Eppinger 1928 hardcover book published by him in Detroit. It does not come with a dust jacket. This item is in English. The story of the Eppinger lure is legendary. Search for the author's name / ESPN to read about the author.
The book was personalized by Lou Eppinger, as he inscribed the inside cover to a "Bird Glasbie" and signed "by Lou." Also on the inside of the front cover of this book is a picture of Lou and I'm assuming the other person is Bird. This seems to be a gift from Lou to Bird and the picture shows Lou's tackle box and lures.
Bird was a Spanish War veteran who lived in Oxford, Michigan and was elected to the House of Representatives. He played and coached football at Michigan State normal school, which is now Eastern Michigan University. Bird also founded the Oxford Leader newspaper in Oxford, Michigan. It is still being published today.

Reprinted from fourth American edition An incredible reproduction – a jewel The Compleat Angler was first published in 1653, but Walton continued to add to it for a quarter of a century. It is a celebration of the art and spirit of fishing in prose and verse; 6 verses were quoted from John Dennys's 1613 work The Secrets of Angling. It was dedicated to John Offkey, his most honoured friend. There was a second edition in 1655, a third in 1661 (identical with that of 1664), a fourth in 1668 and a fifth in 1676. In this last edition the thirteen chapters of the original had grown to twenty-one, and a second part was added by his friend and brother angler Charles Cotton, who took up Venator where Walton had left him and completed his instruction in fly fishing and the making of flies. This volume contains Izaak Walton's famous fishing manual, "The Compleat Angler". This vintage text constitutes an iconic angling guide that would make for a worthy addition to any collection of fishing literature. The chapters of this volume include: "A Conference betwixt an Angler, a Hunter, and a Falconer; each commending his recreation", "Observations of the Otter and Chub", "How to Fish For, and to Dress the Chavender, or Chub", "Observations of the Nature and Breeding of the Trout, and How to Fish for Him", etcetera. Izaak Walton was an English author. He is best remembered for writing "The Compleat Angler", but he also wrote numerous short biographies that were published under the title of Walton's Lives.

Francis Trevelyan Buckland (17 December 1826 – 19 December 1880), better known as Frank Buckland, was an English surgeon, zoologist, popular author and natural historian. He was born in a noted family of naturalists. After a brief career in medicine he took an interest in fishes and other matters. He was one of the key members and founders of the acclimatisation society in Britain, an organization that supported the introduction of new plants and animals as food sources which was influenced by his interest in eating and tasting a range of exotic animal meats.
