Description:
No Binding. Very Good. Tanconville and Maurice Toussaint. A portfolio of FORTY-EIGHT plates, TWO plates MISSING (should be a total of fifty plates), in a blue cloth-covered flower-box with a slipcase that has a blue leather spine. There was probably a booklet with text, which is missing. The plates are 11" x 14" and all in vg+ or better, with French captions. They depict French soldiers in uniform from about 1790 to 1870. The flower-box is vg- (leather pull-tab broken off; cloth wrinkled and puckered). The slipcase is vg- (soiled, rubbed, edgeworn; white marks on one panel; but the leather spine looks nice). Please be aware that shipping this item will require extra charges above our standard rate.

Small Quarto (10 1/2 x 8 inches; 267 x 205 mm), [12 pages] in stapled wrappers (soft cover).
Transcript of a speech by William J. Casey (1913-1987), accepting the William J. Donovan Award from the Veterans of the Office of Strategic Services. Casey had been chief of secret intelligence for the European theatre of operations during World War II. This award -- from a group of former intelligence officers -- cites him for his organization of radio teams that he parachuted into Germany to send back intelligence on Nazi positions.
In his speech, Casey lavishes praise on Donovan and others in the clandestine services and discusses some of his own intelligence work during World War II. A fascinating look at a side of the war that was crucial in securing the Allied victory over the the Axis powers.
OCLC shows only two institutional holdings, at Georgetown and at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam. Separately, we find two copies among Casey's papers at the Hoover… Read More

1649 1st English Civil War Independency Clement Walker Anarchia Verax Cromwell
Clement Walker, better known by his pseudonym Theodore Verax, was a 17th-century English politician best known for his monumental work 'The History of Independency'. This book, which consisted of numerous treatises, was written to outline the fallacies and myths of religious factionalism in England. Walker discusses various rulings in the House of Commons but primarily those pertaining to the English Civil War.
The second part of History of Independency, entitled 'Anarchia Anglicana', was published in 1649 immediately following the execution of King Charles I. Note the significant records of Oliver Cromwell throughout this work.
This 1649 first edition includes the Appendix to the first part, which was published the year prior.

Francois Guizot was a 19th-century French historian known for his extensive portfolio of history books on France, America, and England. One such work was his 'History of England', a work covering the entirety of British history, albeit not as thorough as English historians. It covers important wars, reigns of English kings, the life of Oliver Cromwell, and much more. Athens, Ohio: Ohio University Press, 1985. Paperback. Near Fine. viii, 191 p.; 23 cm. Paperback with illustration by Kathe Kollwitz. "In his study of the Allied blockade of 1915-1919, Vincent examines the rationale and impact of this first large-scale use of food as a weapon in the twentieth century. Vincent demonstrates that the collapse of the German war effort was induced as much by prolonged hunger as by military reversal. . . . The maintenance of the hunger blockade, Vincent argues, was an ill-advised and unjust action which contributed to the radicalization of post-war germany, the collapse of the Weimar republic, and the eventual rise of National Socialism." -- cover.
