Very Good. 8 x 10 inch, matted and framed photogravure print of Schooner America, from a photograph taken August, 1891. some minor spots on image, else in very good condition in a sound black frame with silver surround.Overall dimensions 12 x 14 inches. n/a, 1887. An original Imperial commendation, such as were issued from time to time by the Hue court to citizens of particular merit. Written in Sino-Vietnamese characters on ochre coloured handmade paper, the paper overprinted with a beautifuly ornate dragon among clouds, in silver ink. The commendation is inscribed on the right, in black ink, and is dated 'Dong Khanh 2nd year, 7th month, 1st day' (1887) on the left. Over the date is the impression of a large cinnabar seal of the court. A rare and unusual example of Vietnamese ephemera. Later mounting in handscroll form, bordered in yellow/gold brocade. Promotional pamphlet for Kola Astier, a product possessing "remarkable curative and stimulative properties quite unknown to any other preparation." According to the manufacturer, Gallia Laboratories, Kola Astier builds muscular strength, fights fatigue, relieves depression and "melancholia," stimulates the heart, and helps in combatting bronchitis, pneumonia, and "senile debility." It also acts, we're told, as a "remarkable regenerator" for "tired, overworked men and women." Where did this cure for every ailment come from? According to the company, Dr. P. Collector's Edition Program from Larry Bird Night - Bird: A Basketball Legend 4to size staplebound booklet; 32 glossy pages with color and a few black and white photographs. Front cover is a color illustration of Larry Bird done by famed sports artist LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012.) The back cover is a full-page advertisement of Converse sneakers through the years. There is no table of contents, but the articles include "The Ten Greatest Games Larry Bird Played In" and "The Championship Years." There are some small creases on the front cover near the staple binding, a light crease on the back cover and light wear to the bottom front corner. . Stapled. Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Private Press.

A rare pictorial envelope not listed in Walcott, is listed in Weiss, C-O 51. A satirical image of a new coin design for the Confederate States of America (CSA). Printed in blue ink on cream colored laid paid. Reverse side shows use with an impressed stamp mark in the center of the flap? If gum portion was used, it did not stick. Wrinkles in the fold down flap. Printer is unknown. The blue ink color print is strong; very good image, in very good condition. A rare civil war envelope!

Paris: Gil Blas, 1897. Stiff Wraps. Illustrated stiff wrappers. Very good. Steinlen, Theophile. Steinlen's illustrations, 25.5 x 22.5 cm. All are covers for "Gil Blas" the popular French journal for which Steinlen produced a host of illustrations. All the issues were cut to remove the top portion noting the publisher and the lead title, the latter cut and pasted below the illustration. One cover presents Steinlen's noted love and enthusiastic illustrations of cats. The issue title by Alphonse Allais (journalist and humorist) translates, "Against Dogs." All the magazine covers matted to stiff dark green stock. Some of the covers have a hook at rear for hanging. Slight creasing to a few covers. A unique archive of Steinlen's efforts for Gil Blas.

Only ten copies in libraries, according to WorldCat databases. When published, the pamphlet was sent to newspapers and magazines across the Pacific Northwest and probably a few select places in California and the East Coast; most were likely tossed into the proverbial round file.
