Bound in early 19th century straight grained red morocco with spots of rubbing to the extremities. The outer joints are professionally strengthened. The upper corner tip to the front cover is neatly patched. All edges are gilt. Marcus Minucius Felix was a 3rd-century Roman scholar who is remembered only for being an advocate of Christianity in a pagan Roman world. His only known work was "Octavius" – a narrative dialogue between a Christian and a pagan. Much of this work was influenced by Cicero's "Nature of the Gods" and was written to convince non-Christians to convert from their pagan ways.
This 1709 Latin edition was edited by Jacobus Gronovius.

Willem Nieupoort, a 17th-century Dutch historian, wrote 'Rituum' as a supplement to traditional Roman antiquarian studies. He outlined various aspects of Roman orders including the establishment of Rome and the Roman Senate, the offices of religious priests, liturgical rites, and the importance of games and amphitheater entertainments. There is also an important section focused on the Roman army as well as a section on the private lives of Romans, exploring their clothing, customs, coins, and celebrations.
Nieupoort was a well-known and respected jurist of his time, thus much of his perspective in this work involves Roman law. He acknowledges the importance of Cicero, Plato, and other philosophers, but also mentions the Roman focus on mythology.

Ubbo Emmius was a 16th-century German historian known for his works on historiography. He published an impressive and thorough history of Greece entitled 'Vetus Graecia Illustrata'. This is the first edition of the classic Latin text of Casaubon relating to the Greek and Roman military, together Aeneas's tactical memoir. Originally published in 1609 in Greek and Latin. Ex reference library, which probably explains its survival, with 19th century library labels on spine, pictorial bookplate on rear pastedown and numbers hand-written in pencil on reverse of title page. Hand-written presentation note in ink on front free endpaper dated 1871. Some loss of paper at front pastedown, no rear free endpaper. Some foxing /marking and signs of age in text , generally the inner book is clean and in remarkably good condition for its age.

This small volume contains the potery of Claudius Claudiani, known as Claudian (c. 370-c. 404 AD). A poet of Greek origin who wrote in Latin, he has been considered the last significant poet in the classical tradition and was in particular known for his epigrams praising Romans in significant political positions, as well as his poetry on mythic topics. He was considered a poet of importance in the Middle Ages.
This edition of Claudian's works was published by Daniel Elzevier, a member of the significant Dutch publishing House of Elzevier, in 1677. This is an excellent example of the small editions for which the House of Elzevier was particularly well-known, measuring approximately 2.5 inches wide by 4.5 inches tall, and its contents accord with their focus on classical works as well as editions of the Greek New Testament.
