Description:
1887 Golden Legend of the CROSS Medieval Woodcut Illustrations Veldener Caxton

A beautiful, 1887 facsimile edition of Veldener's printing of 'Golden Legend on the Finding of the Holy Cross'. This work includes William Caxton's English translation as well as 64 impressive illustrations from Fisher fresco paintings from the Chapel of Trinity Church in Stratford England. The original 15th-century work was written by an unknown author; though, the decorative Veldener printing was much desired. The illustrations are known to be reproduced from the 1483 original edition of the 'Golden Legend'.

Notes and prefatory material of John Ashton and Baring Gould. Ashton covers the legend itself, depicting types of miracles, raising people from the dead, healing the sick, and oddly making 'black people become white'!
This 1887 edition was published by Unwin and bound in a decorative binding, in the style of 15th-century masters.

Description:
1709 BEAUTIFUL 1ed Octavius Minucius Felix Pagan Evangelism Fine Binding Arms
Marcus Minucius Felix was a 3rd-century Roman scholar who is remembered only for being an advocate of Christianity in a pagan Roman world. His only known work was "Octavius" – a narrative dialogue between a Christian and a pagan. Much of this work was influenced by Cicero's "Nature of the Gods" and was written to convince non-Christians to convert from their pagan ways.
This 1709 Latin edition was edited by Jacobus Gronovius.

Description:
1685 1ed Erasmus of Rotterdam Enchiridion Militis Christian Knight Soldier Wars

"When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes."
― Erasmus

While best known for his 'In Praise of Folly' and 'Colloquies', Desiderius Erasmus wrote other important works including his book "Enchiridion Militis Christiani". More commonly known as 'Handbook of the Christian Knight', this book is a guidebook for Christians on how to live a Christian life, rather than just going through the practices and appearing to be living for Christ.

This 1685 edition was published by John Hayes in Cambridge, a fine Latin printing of a famous work of Erasmus philosophy and theology.

Anscombe's (1919-2001) landmark article "Modern Moral Philosophy," which offered a powerful critique of the Kantian and utilitarian ethical traditions in modern moral philosophy-and is renowned for introducing the term "consequentialism" into the lexicon of analytical philosophy and for inaugurating a revival of Aristotelian virtue ethics.
