RIDEOUT--author of CAMPING OUT IN CALIFORNIA--laid in. Henry Milner Rideout (1877-1927), a native of Calais, Maine, was author of 16 novels, 23 short stories & novellas (many of which appeared in The Saturday Evening Post), and a biographical memoir. His early writing abilities where such that they spurred his high school English teacher, Laura Burns and her cousin, distinguished Harvard English professor Charles Townsend Copeland, to motivate local townspeople to lend Rideout the funds necessary to attend Harvard. He graduated in 1899 and was an instructor in the English department for four years--until his college debts were paid off. London: Faber and Faber, 1952. Some creasing and small tears to the edges of price-clipped dustwrapper, the top inch or so of which is torn away at the top end of the spine. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of orange boards, a small faded bit at the top end of the spine where the dustwrapper has been torn away, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. Doesn't seem to be a common book, I see very few copies anywhere online. Sayenko's works are in private collections and institutions around the world including the Russian National Library Staatsbibliotheck, Grolior Club.
Bound accordion style with printing on one side only and with the final leaf tipped onto the back of sturdy caeboard, quarter-bound in natural thick linen, the sides covered in decorated paper with printing by Sayenko. Top and bottom edges uncut, pastedowns of grey paper, title page in red and black with a small cut of a cat, most of the text in black with some phrases in red, cuts throughout in multiple colors. Unpaginated, with two additional fold-out leaves tipped in.
Enclosed in publisher's cardboard slipcase covered with white paper.
Fine; as new, signed by the artist.
