Description:
Portland, Maine:: Rebecca Goodale,, 2002.. Edition of 10. 9 x 8.5" hand-colored prints with collage in magic wallet binding with wraparound case. Rebecca Goodale: "Two rare moths in Maine that share the same habitat are winged adults during different months, so even though they live together they are never seen at the same time." From Goodale's Threatened and Endangered Exhibit, this book focuses on two threatened Maine moths that share a common habitat but mature in different months. Goodale uses a magic wallet form which unites the twilight moth, April, and zanclognatha, July, in a pitch pine / scrub oak barren setting. Using this format restricts the viewer to see both moths simultaneously but these two species are adults in different seasons so one would not see them in the same view.

New York:, undated [1902].. Fine. Fine condition. Original Charcoal and ink on paper. Image size: 10.25 x 15.25 inches. Sheet size 13 x 17.5 inches. Elegantly custom framed in Ecru rag board with gilt decoration, one inch neoclassical silver molding. Dimensions: 20 x 26 inches. Executed in charcoal and ink on paper- Charles Livingston Bull's preferred medium-an elegant composition of a Blue-winged Teal in flight leading a V formation ofr ducks at dusk. As in his drawing of the Solitary Teal, (6671) here the influence of Japanese design is unmistakable. As a collector of Japanese wood block prints- Bull studied and here utilized the finely- tuned conventions of image building commonly found in the Japanese prints of the late nineteenth century. A mature teal floats towards the viewer followed by the silhouette of birds in v formation. Patterned and tonal blocks of monochrome create the form of the floating Teal, with just the hint of landscape accentuated by the thinnest of… Read More

Elegantly custom framed in Ecru rag board with gilt decoration, one inch neoclassical silver molding. Dimensions: 22 1/8 x 19 1/8 inches. Executed in charcoal and ink on paper- Charles Livingston Bull's preferred medium-an elegant composition of a Blue-winged Teal in flight over lily pond with reeds in the foreground. The influence of Japanese design is unmistakable. As a collector of Japanese wood block prints- Bull studied and here utilized the finely tuned conventions of image building commonly found in the Japanese prints of the late nineteenth century. In this composition Bull utilizes the foreshortened reeds and flowering lily pads below to create an intimate setting into which the floating Teal appears. The Teal's extended wing obscures a portion of the lily pad- allowing for sense of motion. The form… Read More
