This was the Family Bible of Ann and Thomas Flint Field (Cheesemonger), of Fielden, Bedfordshire, parishioners of Christ Church, Newgate. The two-page handwritten account on front endpaper of Volume I gives birth, death, and baptism dates for all 10 children. The fourth son, WILLIAM (VENTRIS) FIELD, born August 21, 1813, had a long and distinguished career in law, and tried many important cases. Nuremberg: Peter Conrad Monath, 1730. Octavo. 17, 1120, 320. Very rare. Only two recorded copies of the Morl edition (Erlangen, Nuremberg); none on OCLC. Second corrected edition. Introduction by Gustav Philipp Morl (1673-1750), Doring notes in The Learned Theologians of Germany in the 18th and 19th Centuries was important both for his studies in Descartes as well as Confessional Theology. In the four page introduction he notes that Nuremberg is fortunate in this time. There is a pastedown of showing Jesus examining the 10 Commandments (though the fifth apparently is missing from the tables) and below is a panorama of the city. The other endpaper has a full page of Professor Morl (the same as in the NYPL digital collection of famous personages). The following preliminaries list the entire Augsburg Confession (it was the 200 anniversary of its first appearance). Printed general title page (1743) laid down with loss to the lower border and imprint, which have been replaced in facsimile. Ornamental headpiece at the beginning of Genesis. Text in two column black letter, with cross references and short summaries at the beginning of each chapter. The text is based on Martin Luther's version by way of the 34th edition of the Halle Bible, with books three and four Esra and three Maccabees supplied from the Berlenburg Bible.
