Description:
The book and unclipped dj are in new condition. Author's full signature appears under the title on the second title page. Statd first edition; presumed first printing. Contains 86 b&w photos. From the dj: Duveen's whole career was based on the simple observation: Europe has the art; America, the money. Secrest shows how he sold hundreds of masterpieces by Bellini, Botticelli, Giotto, Raphael, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Watteau, Velázquez, Vermeer, and Titian, among others, by convincing such self-made Americans as Morgan, Frick, Huntington, Widener, Bache, Mellon, and Kress that ownership of great art would ennoble them, and while waving such huge sums at the already noble British owners that the art changed hands and all were happy. Shipment to any U. S. location will be upgraded to priority mail at no additional charge.

Book will be priority mailed to any U. S. address.

Description:
(3) pages letterpress text, 6 lithographed plates. Publisher's wrappers with printed blue title shield to front cover. Uncut. Folio (480 x 320 mm). Slightly soiled. Engel. Bibl. Faustiana 1822 ; cf. Sammlung Kippenberg 1903 ("Verlag von Otto Humburg & Co." no date (obviously a remainder copy without the original wrappers; the Otto Humburg publishing house started its business around 1865) ; Rümann. 19. Jahrhundert 635. First edition. One of the rarest and at the same time most unusual suites to illustrate Goethe's Faust, and also one of the largest in size. Only a few copies with the original wrappers can be found; this is important because the suite was issued without a title page, so the title and imprint can only be found here. "(Er) wurde bekannt durch seine Illustrationen in Arabeskenform zu Goethes Faust und ebensolche zu Ossians Gedichten (Berlin, 1835)" (Thieme/Becker XVI, p 47). - "Carl Harnisch, born in Altenburg, Germany on January 1, 1800, worked as an artist and created designs for… Read More

Description:
Frank Reaugh painted West Texas in the early part of the 20th century. This book is the complete transcripts of sketch trips made in 1920 - 21 in North Central and West Texas. The book contains maps and some archival photos. Frank Reaugh painted longhorn cattle and other subjects of the old west, so he had to go where there were still remnants of that time. His home and studio were in Dallas and now it is preserved with a historical marker. His paintings are in several museums and in the White House. The book is unusual in that it is softcover, but it is punched at the spine and wrapped with cord. I've seen books like this that were used for field work to make them more durable. I've never seen another copy of this book, or even a picture, so I don't know if the book was intended for field work, or if this is an affectation. In addition, the pages are doubled (also durable). There is a very small tear at the bottom front spine, otherwise the book is in very good condition. The pages are clean and… Read More

The first full survey of the work of a British artist whose art has captured the public imagination since the 1990s
Cornelia Parker (b. 1956) is one of the most thoughtful and poetic artists working in Britain today. Her wide-ranging practice, chiefly in sculpture and installation, touches on the fragility of human experience and is rich with visual allusions and literary innuendo. Parkers dynamic projects have included blowing up a shed, steamrolling musical instruments, exploding a firework made from a pulverized meteorite, and suspending charcoal taken from a church struck by lightning. This monograph traces the development of her art from the late 1970s to the present day. Organized chronologically, the book covers the… Read More
