Description:
1829 John Smith ART of Drawing Oil Painting English Still Life Landscape Color

'The Art of Painting' is a rare 17th-century treatise on painting with oils by English clockmaker John Smith. This work was an immensely popular work throughout the end of the 17th-century into the mid-1700s. In fact, it went through a number of editions through the end of Smith's lifetime.
While the title would suggest this is merely a work from an artistic view, it covers a variety of topics including how to work with gold and silver gilding. Other topics include
·
How to mix oils
·
Achieving correct color
·
Oil paint preservation
·
Proper use of tools
·
Painting landscapes and still life

Signed by Jonathan Levine on title page.Widely revered as the artists' gallerist, Jonathan Levine has nourished a much needed alternative viewpoint within the stilted New York art market. In the pages of Delusional, readers will discover the fascinating backstory that brought this punk kid from Trenton to the hallowed gallery walls of Chelsea. LeVine began his career in the arts publishing a fanzine in the 1980s and then curating shows at diverse venues in the 90s. By the turn of the millennium, LeVine had opened up Tin Man Alley, his own gallery located in New Hope, and then Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Jonathan LeVine… Read More

Description:
1920. Octavo loosely bound pamphlet home constructed of various colours of card. 26pp. Edges untrimmed. A rather charming and lopsided little construction of collage, manuscript, and drawings, most likely juvenile, utilising colour images trimmed from cigarette cards, postcards and other sources, including some clearly Japanese or Chinese pieces. 22 pages of mounted text on cream paper panels tipped on to the card stock, usually with a "main" illustration at the head of the panel, an ink manuscript description of features of the creature concerned, and a small ink drawing beneath. Mostly focussing on insects at the beginning (there's a particularly excellent Mantis), but also including other creatures like, Archer Fish, Flying Dragon lizards, and the humble Mole. A glorious and exuberant little homemade book. Delicate.
