A rare printing of Vignola's 'Five Orders of Architecture' Giacomo da Vignola was perhaps the most important 16th-century architects. Originally printed in 1562, 'Regola,' as it is often called, was successful mainly due to its effectiveness in teaching. It was designed to aid builders and designers in the realization of their architectural projects. Charles Yriarte was a 19th-century French writer who became fascinated with European travel. He spent much of his time in Spain and Italy, the latter of which prompted him to publish many works on his discoveries. One of his more prominent works was simply titled 'Florence'.

'Florence' became one of the most popular works dedicated solely to the Italian city. Yriarte describes notable royal figures, architecture and palaces, modes of travel used in Italy, cathedrals, and much more. This 1881 French edition is illustrated throughout with over 500 engravings.

Joseph Halfpenny was an 18th-century English engraver known for his exquisite illustrated works. As a resident of York, Halfpenny began making sketches drawings of the beautiful York Cathedral, sketches which he began publishing in 1795. These drawings became highly desirable throughout England and were popular amongst architects, Cathedral historians, and illustrators. They were initially published in parts over the course of a few years and were first published in their entirety in 1800.
