Description:
1853 1st ed Missouri Underground Railroad Military Prison Life SLAVERY Abolition

George Thompson was a 19th-century British abolitionist who was one of the most important anti-slavery proponents in the United Kingdom. His lecture tour carried him to the United States where he was met with staunch opposition. However, with the support of other abolitionists Alanson Work and James Burr, Thompson began aiding slaves across the Mississippi River in Missouri. This act put him in prison for twelve years – an event that would yield a book entitled 'Military Prison Life and Reflections'.
This work is a foundational account of brutal prison life in the Midwest and the corruption of the justice system when it came to slavery in America.

Born in Oklahoma in 1909, Kendall graduated from high school at age thirteen, from the University of Oklahoma at age eighteen, and studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in 1932. Like other founding fathers within the movement, including James Burnham and Whittaker Chambers, he was an early Trotskyist, but Kendall would eventually disclaim Communism following… Read More

1885 Civil War 1ed Memoirs of Union General Ulysses S. Grant Illustrated MAPS 2v
"The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can and keep moving on."
– Ulysses S. Grant
An important historical memoir of the Civil War, arguably the most important, and the best thing that Grant ever wrote. General Norman Schwartzkopf has recently called this the finest memoir of war experiences that has ever been penned. As such, it is valuable in its scope, its plain and clear analysis and language, and its broad conclusions about the conduct of the war.
