Description:
1855 Herman Melville TYPEE Story of Toby Polynesia Whaling Novel Moby Dick

"Strange as it may seem, there is nothing in which a young and beautiful female appears to more advantage than in the art of smoking."
― Herman Melville, Typee
Herman Melville was a 19th-century American novelist known for his works 'Typee' and 'Moby Dick'. While 'Moby Dick' has seen more sustained popularity since its first release, 'Typee,' and its sequel 'Omoo,' was Melville's first book and saw initial success and was his most popular work during his lifetime.
'Typee' (1846) is classic travel literature and is based on Melville's own experiences on the island of Nuku Hiva, Polynesia. It was because of 'Typee'
that Melville was coined 'the man who lived among cannibals.' According to Howard, Melville
"drew his material from his experiences, from his imagination, and from a variety of travel books when the memory of his experiences was inadequate"

This 1855 was heavily edited by Melville himself, removing references to… Read More

"The Pilgrim's Progress" is a profound Christian allegory written by John Bunyan in 1678. Narrated as a dream sequence, it details the symbolic journey of a character named Christian, who travels from his hometown, the "City of Destruction," to the heavenly "Celestial City." The narrative charts Christian's spiritual progress, confronting him with the trials and tribulations of his faith as well as the redemptive power of divine grace and perseverance. Bunyan's masterpiece, which he began while imprisoned for violating England's Conventicle Act, is considered a foundational piece of English literature and religious narrative, having influenced numerous authors and thinkers over centuries. First published by Edward De Krafft in Washington, 1818, the book was a response to an Act of Congress from February 7, 1815, during James Madison's presidency, which called for the establishment of the Board of Commissioners to oversee the Navy Department. This text served to guide the transition of the Navy into a peacetime force after the War of 1812, laying out detailed instructions for various ranks and positions, from yard personnel and warrant officers to high-ranking officials. "An Introduction to Astrology" is a revitalized edition of William Lilly's 17th-century work, "Christian Astrology," meticulously adapted by Richard James Morrison, under his penname, Zadkiel. Morrison, with his extensive experience in astrology, infuses the text with contemporary insights while preserving Lilly's classical approach, aiming to foster a more informed and unbiased understanding of astrological science. The book, with its comprehensive coverage, includes a "Grammar of Astrology" and "Tables for Calculating Nativities," catering to all practitioners. Zadkiel challenges prevailing skepticism, urging readers to personally explore and test the principles of astrology, thereby ensuring that their opinions are grounded in experience and knowledge rather than preconceived notions. Zadkiel's work advocated for the practice of astrology as a tool for personal and societal insight.
