1806 1st ed Pons Voyage to Terra Firma South America Tobacco INDIANS Venezuela

François Raimond de Pons's 'Voyage to the Eastern Part of Terra Firma' is one of the most important accounts of voyages in the New World. Perhaps these references provide the best description of this work:

According to Field,
"Beside his account of the slaughter and destruction of Indians during the conquest of their nations, the author gives a portrait of the Indians before the arrival of the Europeans."
Per Hill,
"This is an important account of Venezuela giving a description of the country and people and also accounts of growth and production of cocoa, indigo, sugar, cotton, coffee, and tobacco."

Description:
1841 1ed English Efes Dammim Jerusalem Jewish Zaslav Poland Damascus Affair

'Éfés dammîm. A series of conversations at Jerusalem' was written by the famous Jewish scholar Levinsohn. Levinsohn s work was written in response to the blood accusation charge brought against the Jews of Zaslav in Poland charged with killing Christians to use their blood in communion. Levinsohn's purpose was to acquit the Jews before the eyes of Christians, and to save them from the false accusation of using Christian blood for communion. "Efes Dammim" is written dialogically between a patriarch of the Greek Church in Jerusalem, Simias, and the chief rabbi in the Jewish synagogue.
This 1841 first English edition was published just one year after the Damascus Affair.

1862 1ed SLAVE Census DATA Indians Confederacy Civil War Steel Industry
The 'Preliminary Report on the Eighth Census' is the last census report to show slavery data. Interestingly, since the preceding Census of the U.S. (1850) added every member of the household including women, children and slaves, Kennedy added also American Indians if they had renounced tribal rules. Particularly are the government discussions on disabilities of blindness, idiocy, and the major diseases at the time.

This 1862 edition of Kennedy's census report includes topics such as:
·
Growth of New York with an added population of 783,000 to Virginia where the population had gone down by 17% for the white population (and 3.88% of the slave population)
·
Indian slavery
·
Manumission
·
Fugitive slaves
·
Mortality rates and notes the rates of both whites and slaves
·
Various disabilities including the deaf and dumb as well as the blind

This first edition of the late 19th century book 'A Historical Inquiry Concerning Henry Hudson' is a complete history of Henry Hudson from John Read's discourse to the Historical Society of Delaware. Read gives a history of Hudson his family and the founding of the Muscovy Company of merchants, to his voyage with the Dutch East India Company searching for a Northwest Passage and discovering the Hudson Bay and Hudson River.
Read's discourse was delivered at Wilmington before the Historical Society of Delaware, on its first anniversary. The appendix includes English translations of the printed accounts of Hudson's last two voyages as related by Hessel Gerritz in 1612-13, as well as extracts from Purchas' Pilgrimes and De Laet's Nieuwe Werelt.
Larned remarks this book is
"a most scholarlike and admirable example of a species of investigation which lies at the base of all accurate and trustworthy history".

Description:
1876 1ed Jules Verne Indes-Noires + Chancellor Extraordinary Voyages SciFi 2in1

"In a very real sense, Jules Verne is one of the pioneers of the space age."
― Frank Borman, Daytona Beach Morning Journal, 1969.

Jules Verne's adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. OF course, he is best known for books such as '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea', and 'Around the World in 80 Days', he also wrote lesser-known books like 'Underground City'.

This book, also known as 'The Child of the Cavern', is a story about the good fortunes that come from mining in Scotland; however, Verne opens up a world of mysteries and bizarre goblin encounters in the mine! This work is the 16th part of 'Voyages Extraordinaires', Verne's largest collection of fantasy novels and stories.

In addition to 'Les Indes-noires', this book contains Verne's 'Wreck of the Chancellor' – the story of the final voyage of British sailing ship the Chancellor, told from the perspective of the… Read More

Description:
1800 1ed Vancouver Voyage Pacific Northwest Canada Alaska Illustrated French 3v

Rare first edition on the most important voyage of the North Pacific!

In 1791, Royal Navy officer George Vancouver set out on an expedition to North America's Pacific Northwest, exploring western Canada, Alaska, and parts of Northwest United States. The specifics of this voyage were published at the turn of the century, both in English and French, and is often considered to be the most accurate account of the Pacific Northwest. This 1800 first French edition includes impressive full-page views of Vancouver's discoveries, including an impressive engraving of Mount Rainier. Perhaps Cowan's perspective is the most telling:
"This work is superior to any of its kind, and constitutes the chiefest source of authority of that period."

According to Howes, of all modern expeditions to the Pacific, Vancouver's is one of the most important. In this work Vancouver also describes Alaskan and Canadian natives, nautical and… Read More

1873 Jules Verne 1ed Around the World in 80 Days Adventure Voyages French Hetzel

"Reality provides us with facts so romantic that imagination itself could add nothing to them."
― Jules Verne

Jules Verne's adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, 'Voyages Extraordinaires' was Verne's largest collection of fantasy novels and stories. Perhaps his most famous work of all was none other than 'Around the World in 80 Days'. This story remains hugely popular today, combining exploration, adventure, and a race against time!

Note on dating: like many other Verne first editions, the title page included was issued in each edition, including later printings. The dating comes from the ads in the back of the book – however, this edition has no ads! A rare 1873 true first edition of Verne!
