[ENGLISH ARTS & LITERATURE; 20th CENTURY] LEWIS HIND, 1862-1927, [Charles Lewis Hind] was a British journalist, writer, editor, art critic, and art historian, 2 short autograph letters dated 1889, 4-1/2" x 7", with The Art Journal dark brown oval logo in the upper left corner and address 294, City Road, London, E. C. to the right: (1) July 18, [18]89, 1 p. of 4 pages as folded/about 25 words, writing to unidentified "Dear Sir" that Hind will be "here between 10 and 11 am" on Friday and Saturday if the recipient wants to come by to see him; (2) Sep. 21, [18]89, 2 pp., front and back of single sheet, writing to unidentified "Gentlemen" [plural]…We are just going to press with that portion of our Paris Exhibition Supplement dealing with you exhibit. I enclose proof and rough pulls of illustrations" and asking that these be reviewed for correctness and returned; HISTORICAL NOTE: the "Supplement" and the exhibit referred to are related to the Exposition Universelle world's fair in Paris in 1889; PROVENANCE: from a cache of autograph letters collected by George Kunz, the famed Tiffany mineralogist and gemologist; CONDITION: well-preserved, all handwriting legible, horizontal midfold as mailed.
